Next I typed in Musical Theater Magazine and there are a lot! There's one that started in 2013 called Trish Causey's Musical Theater Magazine. I found out I can't submit to it becasue they actually have interviews with actors and actresses and are very high end but this will be a great resource. The magazine is sub-billed, "The Art & Craft of America's Greatest Original Artform." Pretty cool!
I typed in Musical Theater Journals and finally found something super promising. It is the first website that popped up called Intellect: Publishers of Original Thinking. I think this would be a good one for anyone to look into. THe journal I found is called Studies in Musical THeater and there is a Call for Papers! They want articles from 5000-6000 words about any number of topics on musicals they list. Here's a few possibilities, sounds promising!
- The fusion of words and music
- The use of music and song within theatre, film and related art forms
- Critical approaches to musical theatre
Okay so there is this site called Brevity. It is $3 dollars to submit and sounds really cool. It's main goal is to have brief (hence the title) essays (750 words) on nearly any subject. And, coolest part, they want Multimedia Submissions too. So I think I am going to submit a video about musicals, already started one. Totally cool way to get digitally involved.
I wanted to find something more focused so I typed in Musicals Scholarly Journals. The Music Cognition Resource Center pulled up. It has links to home pages for scholarly journals that publish articles related to the field of music cognition. I looked and found a journal titled Journal of Experimental Psychology- Human Perception and Performance. I think finding this just helped me narrow down my topic. It's A professional peer-reviewed journal published 24 times per year by the American Psychological Association.
I found something through Oxford called The Musical Quarterly again on the same search for Musical Scholarly Journals but they wanted 45-65 page articles. So....
My last possibility is a conference. I've never done one before. So I generally typed in undergraduate Conferneces and I found a site that's called, "The UndergraduateJournals and Conferences Directory. I went to journals they follow about Art/Creative Writing. The Criterion is doing submissions for a journal on "Why Literature?" I think this could apply to all of us showing the awe in some form of literature.
